A Day Trip To The Old Ford Factory And Bukit Chandu

The Old Ford Factory.

After 15minutes bus ride, We reached the Old Ford Factory. Then we were asked to get into groups and start to explore the place and get some informations. Then we were brought to the theatre to watch a short video clip on the World War II. So we slowly walked to the theatre took our seats and watched the clip. It took around 15minutes.

Then, after we had watched the video clip we made our way to the entrance of the Old Ford Factory again. Then our teachers told us to go around and get some relevant informations.

Heads of the dead.
The people were being controlled by the Japanese, and alot were suffered to death. They had to be well-mannered when the people see any Japanese soldiers around. They were told to bow at them if the soldier walks past them. Those who didn't obey the rules were being tortured to death.

Banana Money.
This were the currency during the Japanese occupation. It was called as the ''banana'' money. The exact amount is unknown even to the Japanese, as these currency did not bear any serial number; only block letters.

<-----Lieutenant-General Yamashita Tomoyuki

Known as the 'Tiger of Malaya' for his victorious campiagn against the British in Malaya, Yamashita was regarded by many as a man of foreboding presence. During the Japanese surrender in 1945, Yamashita was tried and sentenced to death in Manila, Philippines, For war crimes relating to the Manila Massacre.

The entrance of Bukit Chandu.

After we looked around the Old Ford Factory, Our bus took us to the Bukit Chandu.
It took around 10minutes to reach there. Then we had to climb up a mountain of stairs to get to the entrance of the muesum. Afterthat, we were allowed in and were told to look around again.

Lieutenant Adnan Bin Saidi.

Lt. Adnan Bin Saidi and his troop of 42 men that had guarded Pasir Panjang Ridge.

Pasir Panjang was one of the fiercest battles that took place in Singapore in World War II. It pitted the invading Japanese Army against a brave but heavily troop of the 1st Malay Brigade of the Malay Regiment. The battle was also remembered for the heroism of Lieutenant Adnan Saidi, the leader of the brigade, who together with his men fought the Japanese to their deaths. This shows that he is being loyal to Singapore.

After we explored around the museum we were walking towards our bus and then we saw these three statues at the entrance. It was written that the Japanese took revenge on the people who lived here and killed more than 200 people.

Overall, It was a enjoyable journey as we were able to know about our Singapore history more clearly.
And the reason for us to be peaceful here was those people who went through the pain, and even some were ready to give their life away. We should really be greatful.

THE END.
